“Pie for Two” is truly a family labor of love.
Initially started by Sarah Dramstad, who has had an amazing career as an artist of many mediums, Sarah began making “Pie for Two” dishes in 2005, after having looked for a small deep dish pie plate, without any success. Instead of giving up, she used her amazing imagination to create her own dish and with a perfectly proportioned recipe book to match. When others saw the unique pie dish for two, it became a greatly requested gift item due to its usefulness. It enabled people to make smaller pies without having to worry about soggy crusts or waste!
Over the past two decades, Sarah has made and sold thousands of “Pie for Two” dishes with the help of her husband, Jim. Now, while Jimmy has never quite gotten the concept of forming the dishes themselves, he is invaluable in the preparation, cleaning, glazing, and firing of the pie dishes. He can also be quite the comedian in the studio claiming to have made the best slab ever...almost every time he rolls a slab of clay!
Sarah and Jim “attempted” to retire the summer of 2023. A year later, their daughter, Lizzy and son-in- law, Jesse, the favorite child, became empty nesters. Lizzy came up with the bright idea to make “Pie for Two” a true family endeavor while driving home from dropping off their youngest son at college. She called her dear mumsy and asked if it would be possible for her and Jesse to make pie dishes too. After numerous, not quite right attempts and a lot of patience, “Pie for Two” is continuing, now with four artists.
They all live and work in the small, picturesque community of Trout Creek, MT. Many of their family days consist of making pie dishes, playing pinochle, and enjoying their dogs and horses (grandhorses, as Sarah says) with much laughter and love!
